Rostock’s Population Protection Day Tackles Water Risks and Climate Challenges

On July 12, 2025, Rostock will host the third joint Population Protection Day, themed 'Water - Utilizing Resources, Mastering Risks'. This event, organized by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, aims to raise awareness about water's vital role and potential threats, while demonstrating the capabilities of civil protection forces and promoting cooperation.

The event, running from 10 am to 5 pm at the Haedge peninsula, will showcase demonstrations and interactive activities related to disaster and civil protection. It will also highlight the impacts of climate change on civil protection and promote preventive measures. The public can find the event's program at www.bevoelkerungsschutztag.de.

The person responsible for the Ministry of the Interior and Construction in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is Interior Minister Christian Pegel. Recently, on October 27, 2025, Christian Frenzel was appointed as the new State Secretary. He oversees the police, constitutional protection, fire brigade, municipal, and disaster protection sectors within the ministry.

The Population Protection Day, aimed at all citizens, emphasizes the joint task of civil protection. By focusing on water and its potential threats, the event seeks to educate the public and foster cooperation between emergency services, authorities, and the public. The event's theme, 'Water - Utilizing Resources, Mastering Risks', underscores the importance of understanding and managing this vital resource.
