RSS Clarifies Stance on Caste Census: Not Opposed, But Must Avoid Politics
RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale has clarified the organisation's stance on a caste census. He stated that the RSS does not oppose the idea if necessary, but stressed that it should not be politically motivated.
Hosabale acknowledged the presence of caste-based backwardness in society and the need for empowerment. He asserted that the RSS does not function on caste lines, echoing a statement made by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat in 2017.
Hosabale emphasised the importance of unity and harmony for India's progress. He also recognised the usefulness of caste census data in ensuring the benefits of government schemes reach the intended communities.
Hosabale's statements provide clarity on the RSS's position regarding a caste census. While not opposing the idea, he stressed the need for it to serve its intended purpose without political manipulation.
