RTS Launches Cutting-Edge Media Hub on EPFL Campus in Lausanne
The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) and its French-language service RTS have inaugurated a new TV and radio production site near Lausanne. The facility, located on the campus of the Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), was opened on Thursday in the presence of several dignitaries. This marks a significant step in RTS' history, as it begins broadcasting from the new site.
The new building, which has been under construction for five years, will accommodate 950 people in a usable area of nearly 25,000 m2. It will be open to the public, featuring live broadcast studios, a foyer with exhibition spaces, and a restaurant. The facility was financed by the sale of the former buildings it replaces.
RTS began broadcasting radio programmes from the new site on November 4, with Option Musique being the first channel to use the new premises. Over the next few months, RTS Première, RTS Espace 2, RTS Couleur 3, and the RTSInfo web newsroom will also relocate to the new site. TV news, sports, and culture departments will move in progressively until 2027. The new site will serve as the primary broadcasting location, with RTS maintaining a presence in Geneva and regional offices in other French-speaking cantons, as well as journalists based in Zurich and Ticino.
The new RTS site in Lausanne-Ecublens, which first broadcast radio programs on December 1, 1967, has now grown into a state-of-the-art production facility. This move signifies a new era for RTS, providing enhanced broadcasting capabilities and a modern workspace for its employees.
