Rüsselsheim Marks WWI & WWII Victims with October 2 Memorial Services
Rüsselsheim am Main will host memorial services on October 2, 2024, to commemorate the victims of both World Wars. The events, organized by the city administration and local district councils in cooperation with the VdK Hessen-Thuringia and local church congregations, will feature various musical groups and prominent speakers.
The day will begin with a service at 11:30 AM in Rüsselsheim-Königstädten, led by local district head Karl-Heinz Schneckenberger and Reverend Maria Heiligenthal. At 1:00 PM, a memorial service will take place at the cemetery in Rüsselsheim-Bauschheim, with Maria Schmitz-Henkes welcoming attendees and Edeltraud Hederer-Kunert delivering the commemorative address.
The central memorial ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM at Rüsselsheim’s Waldfriedhof. Mayor Patrick Burghardt will deliver a commemorative speech, but the welcome speaker remains unannounced. Musical accompaniment will be provided by local groups such as the Siebenbürger Musicians, SKG Bauschheim Brass Band, mixed choir 'CantaRona', and St. Georg Brass Band.
The memorial services aim to honor and remember the victims of both World Wars, bringing the community together in remembrance and reflection. The events are open to all residents and visitors alike.
