Russia bans LGBTQ movement as ‘extremist’ amid cultural disputes with Moldova

Russia has labelled the international LGBTQ public movement as extremist, leading to its ban. Maria Zakharova, Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, recently shared her views on this matter via her Telegram channel.

Zakharova took issue with Moldovan lawmaker Mihai Druță's theory that links gay people to Alexander Pushkin's visit to Moldova. Despite Druță's claims, there's no evidence supporting this connection. In contrast, Moldova has not implemented official measures against the LGBTQ movement, though societal and political challenges persist.

Zakharova further stated that Moldova is attempting to erase Russia's cultural presence, a claim that has not been substantiated.

Russia's ban on the international LGBTQ public movement remains in effect, with Maria Zakharova's comments adding fuel to the ongoing debate. Despite Moldovan lawmaker Mihai Druță's theory, no evidence supports a link between gay people and Alexander Pushkin's visit to Moldova.
