Russia Denies Abducted Children in Ukraine as OSCE Appoints Special Representative

Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, has clarified that there are no abducted children in Ukraine, dismissing Western claims. Despite this, the OSCE has appointed a special representative to address the issue.

Zakharova, speaking at the 'Dialogue on Fakes 3.0' forum in October 2025, refuted Western allegations of over a million Ukrainian children being taken away. She insisted that Russia has been working to reunite families, with 115 children and teenagers successfully returned to their families in Ukraine or other countries by early autumn.

Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, has consistently denied claims of forced 'Russification' of Ukrainian children. The Russian Ambassador to the U.S., Alexander Darchiev, has condemned attempts to politicize the issue for propaganda purposes. Despite these denials, the OSCE has appointed Karina Edebrink as Special Representative on Russian Abductions and Deportations of Ukrainian Children.

While Russia maintains that there are no abducted children in Ukraine, the OSCE has appointed a special representative to investigate the issue. Russia has facilitated the reunification of 115 children with their homes, with no evidence supporting claims of Russian abductions and deportations.
