Russia Glows Purple for World Prematurity Day on November 17
On November 17, buildings across Russia will light up in purple to mark World Prematurity Day. The #NotIndifferent initiative, launched by the human rights organization Memorial in 2014, aims to raise awareness about premature birth and support affected families.
This year, over 70 Russian regions and more than 800 sites will participate in the campaign. In Nizhny Novgorod, the Stadium on Strelka and the TV Tower will be illuminated from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM respectively. The lighting will alternate between static and pulsing effects, symbolizing a heartbeat, a poignant reminder of the lives touched by premature birth.
The color purple, used in the campaign, represents hope, compassion, and openness. It's a powerful symbol for a cause that affects about 6% of babies born annually in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The #NotIndifferent campaign is an annual initiative by the Right to a Miracle charity foundation.
