Russia honors WWII veterans with cash boosts and nostalgic museum contests

Regional Governor Denis Pasler has boosted one-time payments to Great Patriotic War veterans to 25,000 rubles, marking the 80th anniversary of Victory. Meanwhile, school museums across Russia competed in 'Know to Remember', a nostalgic event honouring war veterans.

Over 2,300 entries from 82 regions participated in 'Know to Remember'. The competition, organised by United Russia's Politburo, aimed to preserve the memory of Great Patriotic War veterans and related figures. Sergei Nikonov, Deputy Governor, presented the prizes.

Yekaterinburg's Gymnasium No. 5 History Museum took third place in the 'Best Urban Museum' category. The winning urban museum will receive 200,000 rubles. Meanwhile, the 'History of Chernistochinsky Village' museum won first place in the 'Best Rural Museum' category, earning a 500,000 ruble prize for exhibit development. Both winning museums were built around exhibits donated by students' families.

Governor Pasler's increased payments honour Great Patriotic War veterans, while 'Know to Remember' competition winners receive substantial funding for exhibit development. The competition highlights the importance of preserving war history and honouring veterans.
