Russia launches key railway rebuild to link Yakutia with China's trade routes
Reconstruction has begun on a 10-kilometre stretch of railway in Yakutia, marking a key step in the Dzhalinda–Mohe cross-border project. The work includes upgrading the Reyinovo–Skovorodino section, a vital link in Russia’s transport routes to the Asia-Pacific region. Preparations are now underway, with materials being sourced and early construction tasks started. The project centres on rebuilding the Skovorodino–Reyinovo railway, a priority for both economic and strategic reasons. This section forms part of the larger Dzhalinda–Mohe crossing, which will eventually connect Russia’s rail network to China via a bridge over the Amur River.
Engineers have completed hydrological studies of the river to guide construction. They have also finalised key design plans for the combined bridge crossing and developed a roadway exit from the future border checkpoint. Meanwhile, crews are building the embankment approach to the river, ensuring smooth access for trains and vehicles.
Once finished, the crossing will open new export routes for coal from Yakutia’s mining companies. The upgraded railway and bridge will strengthen trade links between Russia and the Asia-Pacific market. The reconstruction of the Reyinovo–Skovorodino line is now in motion, with early work focused on materials and embankments. The project aims to boost regional trade by providing a direct rail link to China. Completion of the bridge and railway will expand export capacity for Yakutia’s coal producers and improve cross-border transport connections.
