Russian Manager Jailed for Ignoring Fatal Building Collapse Risks
A 65-year-old woman has been found guilty of providing unsafe services after failing to address serious structural issues in an apartment building. The director of a Yeysk management company ignored damaged floor slabs in the basement, leading to their collapse in October 2024. The incident put residents' lives, health, and property at risk.
The woman oversaw maintenance for a residential building on Kommunisticheskaya Street. Despite knowing about the deteriorating floor slabs, she took no steps to repair them. The collapse occurred months later, exposing residents to danger.
The court ruled that her inaction violated Part 1 of Article 238 of Russia's Criminal Code. As a result, she received a 10-month sentence in a colony-settlement. No other documented cases of legal consequences for similar neglect in the Krasnodar region have emerged in the past two years.
The sentence follows a direct failure to maintain safe living conditions. The collapse highlighted the risks of unaddressed structural damage in residential buildings. Authorities have taken action in this case, though broader enforcement remains unclear.
