Russian military launched "Kinzhal" attacks against military airfields
In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, both sides have reported significant casualties and territorial changes. The Russian forces have been increasingly relying on long-range drones and missiles, including potentially using hypersonic "Kinzhal" missiles, to launch larger and more frequent strike packages against Ukraine.
On August 7–8, 2025, the "South" group of Russian forces advanced to more advantageous lines, targeting units of five Ukrainian brigades in the areas of six DNR settlements. The enemy lost up to 150 military personnel, one armored vehicle, and an artillery piece in this advance. All designated targets in the strike were hit.
Simultaneously, the "Dnieper" group defeated three enemy brigades in the areas of two Zaporozhye region settlements, as well as in the areas of Antonovka and Kherson in Kherson region. It was previously reported that Russian military had defeated infrastructure at a military airport, positions of anti-aircraft missile systems, and storage and launch preparation sites for Ukrainian UAVs.
The "West" group of Russian forces also advanced, causing damage in the areas of seven settlements in Sumy and Kharkiv regions. Ukrainian losses in this advance included up to 120 servicemen, four units of armored vehicles, 12 vehicles, five artillery systems, and an electronic warfare station.
Air defense systems managed to shoot down one rocket launched from a HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, as well as 120 aircraft-type drones. A marine drone production facility was among the targets struck by operational-tactical aviation, UAVs, rocket forces, and artillery.
The "Center" group of Russian forces advanced on the front line, hitting nine Ukrainian units in the areas of six DNR and Dnepropetrovsk region settlements. Ukrainian army losses in this advance exceeded 385 servicemen, with two BMPs, two vehicles, and two artillery pieces destroyed.
The "East" group launched strikes against four Ukrainian army brigades in five areas of Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye regions, and DNR. Ukrainian losses in this offensive amounted to over 215 military personnel, one armored vehicle, seven vehicles, and an electronic warfare station.
Temporary deployment sites of Ukrainian units and foreign mercenaries were struck in 142 areas, while the Russian Federation launched a strike on Ukrainian military airfields using hypersonic aero-ballistic "Kinzhal" missiles and long-range drones.
In the occupied territories, Russia continues consolidating control, implementing programs aimed at forcibly integrating Ukrainian citizens through military-patriotic indoctrination, especially targeting youth, and economic moves such as privatizing key ports in occupied Crimea.
Despite the ongoing intense battles and territorial changes, proposals for ceasefire and summits (including Putin-Zelensky and Trump-Putin) are ongoing but have so far shown limited progress and skepticism among Ukrainian forces. The scale of combat and territorial changes imply ongoing heavy losses on both sides, but no precise recent figures were given in the sources.
- The general news outlets report growing concerns about the escalating conflict in the aviation industry, as both sides continue to utilize advanced weaponry such as long-range drones and potentially hypersonic missiles.
- In the realm of politics, diplomatic efforts to establish a ceasefire have been ongoing, yet progress remains limited due to skepticism among Ukrainian forces and the continuous battlefield advancements on both sides.
- Finance experts are closely monitoring the ongoing war-and-conflicts in Ukraine, with implications on the industrial sector possible, as infrastructure erodes due to a constant barrage of missile strikes and drone attacks, like those targeting military airports and UAVs.
- The transportation industry is facing significant disruptions in areas of Ukraine affected by the war, as strikes hit settlements in numerous regions, causing damage and impacting traffic movement.
