Russian officials bring joy to elderly care home with gifts and music

Employees from Russia's Interior Ministry Transport Directorate for the Volga Federal District recently visited the Balahna State Nursing Home. The trip included a festive concert and gifts for residents, timed to mark International Women's Day and Defender of the Fatherland Day.

During the visit, staff and young performers from the Huligandom Teen Mentorship Center staged a concert for the elderly. Songs like Mother Earth became instant favourites among the audience.

Every resident received a personal gift from the visitors. The Transport Directorate also donated a microwave oven to the nursing home. In response, the facility's staff expressed their thanks for the event and the contributions.

The visit comes as part of broader regional efforts to improve elderly care. Since 2024, the Volga Federal District has expanded its network of state-run nursing homes to around 450. Initiatives like the Senior Care Expansion Program have added 120 new facilities, while the Volga Health for Elders campaign has upgraded medical services for over 50,000 residents in areas such as Tatarstan and Nizhny Novgorod.

The concert and gifts provided a moment of celebration for the nursing home's residents. Meanwhile, ongoing regional programmes continue to enhance care standards across the Volga Federal District. These efforts reflect a wider push to support elderly populations through both social engagement and infrastructure upgrades.
