Russian Region Uses AI to Track Teens at Risk Online

Authorities in Sverdlovsk Oblast are tracking millions of online profiles to protect teenagers at risk. The programme aims to spot harmful behaviour, suicidal tendencies, or exposure to banned content. When threats are found, specialists step in to help families within hours.

The system monitors 4.6 million profiles across the region. Any account showing signs of destructive behaviour, extremist influence, or self-harm is flagged immediately. Reports go straight to the Ministry of Education and other agencies for rapid response.

Once a concerning account is identified, experts work directly with the child's family. Their focus is on early intervention, offering tailored support before situations escalate. In 2023 alone, this approach helped 1,247 teenagers receive concrete assistance.

The ongoing monitoring covers millions of users but targets individual cases needing urgent help. Families receive specialist support as soon as risks are detected. The programme continues to expand, aiming to reach more vulnerable adolescents each year.
