Sleek Victory: Ukraine Claims Downing of Elusive Sukhoi Su-35

Breaking news! The Ukrainian army has claimed a significant victory, announcing the destruction of a high-value target—a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet. If confirmed, this loss would cost Moscow a hefty sum of nearly 40 million euros.

This triumph comes hot on the heels of Operation "Web," during which several Russian military aircraft took a hit. On the 7th of June, Kiev amplified the good news with the announcement of the downing of a Sukhoi Su-35 fighter. Reportedly, the plane met its end over the Korenevsky district of the Kursk region, but Moscow remains tight-lipped about the incident.

While the pilot miraculously survived, the Ukrainian army was eager to share the grisly aftermath. Images circulating online depict the charred wreckage of the Sukhoi Su-35, its once sleek form now reduced to smoking rust and wreckage. Another video uncorked by the Ukrainian army documents the grim scene from the sky, the pile of metal remains dissolving in thick, billowing smoke.

Underrated Weapons Wreaking Havoc: Is the Russian Army Biting Dust?

The destroyed aircraft, a prized possession of Russian aviation, signifies another setback for Russia. The Sukhoi Su-35 is a formidable fourth-generation fighter with a unit price estimated at around 40 million euros. Adding to the shame, the downed aircraft marks the 414th Russian aircraft destroyed by the Ukrainian armed forces since the outbreak of the Russian invasion in Ukraine in 2022.

The loss of such a valuable asset may seem symbolic, but the financial toll amounts to a hefty 40 million euros. The downing of this aircraft joins other Russian combat aircraft that have fallen victim to the tenacious Ukrainian army, disrupted by an attack launched by a fleet of 117 drones on the 1st of June alone. This attack reportedly crippled around 10% of Russia’s strategic bomber fleet, affecting bombers such as TU-95 and TU-22, as well as surveillance aircraft like the A-50.

While the price tag for A-50 surveillance aircraft is a cool 300 million euros, the total damage this attack inflicts on Russia is colossal, perhaps billions of euros. The attack’s estimated cost pales in comparison to the loss of such high-value assets.

In the game of cat and mouse, it seems Ukraine has shown once more that size isn’t everything, and even drones worth a mere 500 euros can leave a mighty Vladimir Putin scratching his head.
