Russia's Alexei Gaskov: A Decades-Long Trail of Confessions and Convictions
Russian authorities have linked Alexei Gaskov to multiple violent crimes spanning nearly three decades. Initially arrested in 2002 for four murders in the Moscow region, he later claimed responsibility for over a hundred killings. Yet only four of these have ever been confirmed by investigators.
Gaskov's criminal history dates back to at least 1995. In 2002, police detained him for the murders of four women in Podmoskovye, a suburban area near Moscow. During questioning, he admitted to many more killings but provided no records or clear details. Investigators later determined that most of the 2002 murders he described were actually committed by another man, Mikhail Yudin.
Despite the lack of evidence for his broader claims, Gaskov's violent offences continued. In 2006, a court sentenced him to 10.5 years in prison for raping his partner's 11-year-old daughter. Then, in 2023, he was convicted again—this time for raping his 17-year-old stepdaughter.
Of the murders Gaskov confessed to, only four have been verified by authorities. His other claims remain unverified, with many cases attributed to different perpetrators. Meanwhile, his convictions for sexual violence against minors confirm a pattern of repeated offences over decades.
