Russia’s First Geshe Tsogramba Title Awarded to Buryat Buddhist Scholar

A historic moment for Russian Buddhism: Choipei Lama (Denis Dashidondokov) from Tokchin village is set to receive the prestigious title of Geshe Tsogramba. This is the first time in post-revolutionary Russia that a Buddhist from the country will be honoured with this high spiritual distinction.

Choipei Lama, a respected teacher and spiritual leader within Tibetan Buddhism, has dedicated over two decades to advanced Buddhist studies at Drepung Gomang University in India. After successfully passing the rigorous Gelugpa examinations, he will now be awarded the title of Geshe Tsogramba. This title is one of the highest spiritual distinctions in Buddhist tradition, requiring at least 18 years of study, including 16 years on the Five Great Buddhist Treatises.

Born in Tokchin village of the Aginsky Buryat Okrug, Choipei Lama's journey is a testament to the growth and recognition of Buddhism in Russia. His achievement not only marks a personal milestone but also signifies a significant step forward for the Buddhist community in the country.

Choipei Lama's receipt of the Geshe Tsogramba title is a proud moment for Russian Buddhism. His dedication, perseverance, and achievement serve as an inspiration for the community. This recognition also highlights the growing influence and respect for Buddhist traditions in Russia.
