Russia's Fomin Retires; Osmakov Named New Deputy Defense Minister
Lieutenant General Alexander Fomin, 66, is set to retire from his post as Deputy Minister of Defense in Russia. Fomin, who oversaw international military cooperation at the Ministry of Defense and headed the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation from 2012 to 2017, is preparing to step down from his role in the Russian delegation during talks with Ukraine in Istanbul.
Vasily Osmakov, 42, has been appointed as Fomin's successor. Osmakov, a graduate of Moscow State University in Oriental Studies, has been working in the Ministry of Industry and Trade since 2008 and will take on the new role. Kirill Lysogorskiy has been appointed as the first deputy minister of industry and trade, replacing Osmakov. No information is currently available on who will replace Osmakov in the Ministry of Industry and Trade or when the official confirmation for Fomin's replacement is expected.
