Russia's Krasnodar Region Protects 8 WWII Monuments as Cultural Heritage
Eight significant World War II monuments in Russia's Krasnodar Region have been designated as cultural heritage sites. The decision, made by regional or national authorities, recognises the historical and cultural value of these memorials. The newly listed sites include military burials in Abinsky and Beloglinsky Districts, Goryachy Klyuch, and defensive fortifications in Gelendzhik. Among them are graves of two unidentified pilots and soldier Ivan Kharchenko in Abinsky District, Sergeant Sergei Belousov's grave in Beloglinsky District, two mass graves of Soviet troops in Goryachy Klyuch, and two permanent firing positions in Gelendzhik. The regional office for cultural heritage preservation is now overseeing the condition of these sites and developing conservation measures. Krasnodar Region is home to nearly 1,500 such monuments, commemorating the Battle of the Caucasus and Kuban's role in the Soviet victory. Historical and cultural assessments confirmed the high memorial value of all eight sites. The designation of these eight World War II monuments as cultural heritage sites ensures their preservation and recognition. The regional office's oversight and conservation measures will help maintain these historical reminders for future generations.
