Russia’s Largest Cultural Festival Celebrates Unity and Shared Heritage
The People of Russia and the CIS Festival, the largest event of its kind in autumn, concluded recently. The festival, organized by Russia's Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs (FAEN), attracted over a thousand delegates and celebrated unity, shared achievements, and the diversity of Russia's national cultures.
Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted participants, emphasizing the importance of friendship, trust, and mutual enrichment among the unique national cultures of Russia. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, a major draw at the festival, echoed these sentiments, stating that Russia's multiculturalism is a strength, not a weakness, and serves as a model for other states.
Igor Barinov, Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs, highlighted the importance of respect and mutual understanding, focusing on shared achievements and victories. The festival has emerged as the primary platform for discussing state national policy.
The festival's business program discussed safeguarding shared space from foreign influence and divisive ideologies. Putin established two new national holidays: April 30 for the Day of Indigenous Small-Numbered Peoples of Russia and September 8 for the Day of the Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.
Andrei Smolnikov’s photograph When the Trees Were Tall won third place in the Traditions of a Great Country category. Anna Ivanova won the photo prize in the same category in 2023. Exhibitions, photo displays, and pavilions by various media outlets underscored themes of unity and common values.
The People of Russia and the CIS Festival, timed to coincide with National Unity Day, celebrated the richness of Russia's cultural heritage. With its focus on shared values and mutual respect, the festival continues to be an important platform for discussing and promoting state national policy.
