Russia’s tourism booms as lesser-known regions see record visitor surges in 2025

Russia’s tourism sector saw strong growth in 2025, with several regions attracting record visitor numbers. Moscow, Krasnodar Territory and St. Petersburg led as the most popular destinations. Meanwhile, smaller regions experienced sharp rises in arrivals, signalling a shift in travel trends across the country.

Krasnodar Territory remained one of the top three most visited regions, alongside Moscow and St. Petersburg. These areas consistently drew the highest numbers of tourists throughout the year.

Crimea followed in fourth place but stood out with the fastest growth rate. Visitor numbers there surged by 31%, marking the region as a rising hotspot.

Other areas also saw significant increases. The Republic of Kalmykia recorded the largest jump, with arrivals climbing by 36%. Amur Region, Mordovia, Transbaikal Territory, Kamchatka Territory, Buryatia, Orenburg Region, Yaroslavl Region and Tambov Region all reported notable year-on-year growth.

The data highlights a broad expansion in Russia’s tourism, with traditional favourites maintaining their appeal while lesser-known regions gain traction. Kalmykia’s 36% rise and Crimea’s rapid growth suggest changing preferences among travellers seeking new destinations.
