Rwanda and DRC to Sign Historic Peace Deal at White House on December 4

A historic peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will be formally signed at the White House on December 4. The deal, brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, follows months of negotiations and mediation efforts from the African Union, Qatar, and regional bodies like the East African Community. Leaders Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC will attend the ceremony in Washington.

The peace accord was first reached on June 27, 2025, in Washington, marking a major step toward ending the long-running conflict in eastern Congo. Under the terms, Rwanda agreed to withdraw its troops from the region within 90 days. A joint security coordination mechanism was also established, with implementation required within 30 days.

The signing of the accord on December 4 will formalise commitments made in June, including troop withdrawals and security coordination. The agreement represents the most significant diplomatic effort in years to address instability in eastern Congo. Regional and international observers will now monitor its implementation in the coming months.
