Saarbrücken’s Greens clash with mayor over electric mobility priorities
The Green faction in Saarbrücken has slammed Mayor Uwe Conradt's 'Mayor for a Strong Automotive Location' campaign, accusing him of misjudging ecological and economic realities. The Greens argue that Germany is falling behind in electric mobility investment compared to China and the USA.
The Green faction spokesperson, José Ignacio Rodriguez Maicas, criticized Mayor Conradt for focusing on European lobbying instead of local issues. The Greens believe that investing in electric mobility secures future-proof jobs in Germany and calls for more cycle paths, attractive public transport, and demand-oriented charging infrastructure.
The Greens argue that the Mayor's campaign does not provide accurate information about Saarbrücken's activity level in electric mobility or a comprehensive comparison of cities' e-mobility investments. They view 'technology openness' as a delaying tactic and do not consider synthetic fuels and plug-in hybrids equivalent alternatives to electric mobility. The Greens warn that promoting these alternatives endangers climate goals and weakens the industry's long-term competitiveness.
The Green faction demands Mayor Conradt to focus on developing local transport infrastructure. They believe that prioritizing electric mobility and sustainable transport solutions will benefit both the environment and the city's economy in the long run.
