Saarland's 10 historic landmarks get €480,000 lifeline for urgent repairs
Ten heritage sites in Saarland will receive financial support this year from the German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD). The organisation has allocated €480,000 to help preserve historic buildings across the region. The DSD was established in 1985 to safeguard Germany's architectural heritage. Over the years, it has distributed around €800 million to restore more than 7,600 monuments nationwide.
One of the projects selected for funding is the former Differten train station in Wadgassen. Built around 1880, the station now requires major repairs before it can be repurposed. The DSD's contribution will assist in its restoration, ensuring the building's long-term survival. The €480,000 grant will support urgent conservation work at key sites, including Differten station. These efforts aim to maintain Saarland's cultural landmarks for future generations. The DSD's ongoing funding continues to play a vital role in protecting Germany's historic structures.
