Sabah Proposes Monday Polling Day for 17th State Election to Respect All Religions
Sabah is set to hold its 17th state election, with a proposal suggesting a unique polling day to ensure ease of voting and respect for all religions. Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau has proposed Monday night football as the polling day. The proposal aims to maintain interfaith harmony, making it convenient for voters who work far from their hometowns to cast their ballots. It also reflects the National Education Philosophy. Madius argues that temporarily disrupting schooling on football night is a small price to pay for upholding these principles in government policies. This move mirrors the approach taken during the 14th General Election, where a special public holiday was declared to facilitate voting. If approved, Monday night football polling day will allow voters to return home over the weekend, respecting all religions' days of worship. It is a step towards ensuring accessibility and harmony in the Sabah election.
