BSW-Faction Chairwoman Complains About State of Political Culture - Sabine Zimmermann’s political exit reshapes Saxony’s left-wing landscape by 2025
Sabine Zimmermann, a prominent BSW politician, will step down from her role in Saxony’s state parliament at the end of 2025. The decision marks the end of a long political career that included leadership in the Left Party and a shift to the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW). In her final speech, she criticized modern politics for losing sight of its purpose and failing the public.
Zimmermann began her political journey after German reunification, working first as a trade unionist and SPD member. She later joined the Left Party, where she became a key figure in Saxony. Until September 2023, she led both the parliamentary group and the party’s state branch.
Zimmermann’s exit will take effect at the close of 2025, ending a career defined by sharp critiques of Germany’s political landscape. Her departure leaves a gap in Saxony’s parliament and underscores ongoing tensions over the direction of left-wing politics. The BSW will now need to adjust without one of its most experienced voices.
