Landratsamt Pirna expects significant deficit in budget - Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge Faces €30M Budget Deficit, Calls for Saxony Support
The district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge faces a €30 million budget deficit next year, with residents expecting efficient public administration and reliable infrastructure. The district administrator, Michael Geisler, has blamed chronic underfunding and called for more support from Saxony.
Geisler has warned that the district will need to rely on loans for investments and short-term credit lines in 2026 to meet all financial obligations. Despite the district authorities and relevant social institutions working comprehensively and systematically to cover social welfare costs, the deficit keeps growing. Residents are concerned as expenditures exceed revenue and reserves are nearly depleted.
The district administrator has urged Saxony to contribute more substantially and systematically to covering the district’s social welfare costs. He has highlighted that the district and its municipalities are burdened with an ever-increasing number of responsibilities without adequate compensation from federal and state governments.
The district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge is projected to have a €30 million budget deficit next year, with the administrator calling for more support from Saxony. The district will need to resort to loans to meet financial obligations, raising concerns about the growing deficit and the strain on residents.
