Sacred Soil Capsule Temporarily Removed for Urban Renovation

A capsule containing sacred soil from the Brest Fortress has been temporarily removed from its site near a border troops memorial in Lesnoy. This is part of the 'Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment' program, with the renovation of the 'Territory of Youth' public space set to finish in October 2026.

The capsule, installed in 2018 to mark the centennial of Russia’s border troops, was removed in a solemn ceremony attended by veterans, military-patriotic organization representatives, and local youth. During the renovation, it will be kept at the city’s Museum and Exhibition Complex. Its return to the original location is planned once the project is complete. The identity of those responsible for the temporary removal remains unclear.

The capsule, a tribute to the heroism of Brest Fortress border guards, is temporarily housed at the museum while the 'Territory of Youth' public space undergoes renovation. It will return to its original site after the project's completion in October 2026.
