Sarawak Transforms Old Logging Roads into Safe Public Pathways by 2030
Sarawak's government has launched an ambitious project to convert former logging roads into gazetted public roads, aiming to improve access for residents by 2030. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas heads the special task force overseeing this initiative.
The state will take over all these roads, previously used by loggers, without charging residents. This move addresses safety concerns and ends the need for permission from logging concessionaires. The project, known as 3M2L, employs modern engineering methods such as elevated roads and Highway Information Modelling (HIM) technology, even in challenging terrains.
The ultimate goal is to have all these roads upgraded and in use by the people of Sarawak by the year 2030. This initiative resolves long-standing access issues for residents who previously relied on unsafe former logging roads.
The Sarawak government's road conversion project, led by Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, seeks to enhance safety and accessibility for residents by 2030. This move signifies a commitment to improving infrastructure and quality of life in the state.
