Saturday: Invitation to a Solidarity Rally for Israel in Front of the Town Hall
Solingen has shown strong support for Israel after recent attacks left its twin city, Ness Ziona, damaged by rocket fire. While no injuries were reported, the city has organised a silent vigil to stand in solidarity. The event will take place on Saturday, October 14, at 8:00 p.m. on Walter Scheel Square.
The rally follows days of violence in Israel, which began on Tuesday. In response, Solingen’s Israeli flag has been flying on Walter Scheel Square since the attacks started. The vigil, scheduled after Shabbat ends, will include candlelight in front of City Hall.
Mayor Tim Kurzbach will speak at the event, alongside Leonid Goldberg, Chairman of the Jewish Community of Wuppertal, and Bernd Krebs, Chairman of the Ness Ziona Friendship Association. Prayers will be led by Rabbi Chaim Kornblum and Pastor Dr. Ilka Werner. The mayors of Solingen, Wuppertal, and Remscheid have also publicly declared their solidarity with Israel. Organised by the City of Solingen, the Working Group of Christian Churches, and the Ness Ziona Friendship Association, the event aims to show unity. Ness Ziona, Solingen’s twin city, suffered material damage from rocket strikes but reported no casualties.
The vigil will bring together residents to light candles and observe a moment of silence. Speakers will address the crowd, reinforcing Solingen’s bond with Israel. The event marks a collective response to the ongoing conflict and a show of support for those affected.
