Saturn closes Halle branch as MediaMarktSaturn restructures nationwide
Rumors had been swirling for some time, but now it's official: Electronics giant Saturn will close its branch on Leipziger Straße. Customers who arrived at the Saturn store in Halle's pedestrian zone on Friday morning were met with shuttered display windows. The location remained closed to shoppers all day due to an impromptu staff meeting, where employees were informed of the impending shutdown.
Focus Shifts to the Peißen Location
Parent company MediaMarktSaturn confirmed the plans upon inquiry, stating the decision is part of a nationwide strategy to continuously review and optimize its network of stores. For Halle, this means a shift in focus to the city's outskirts.
"We have decided to consolidate our efforts at our Halle Center Peißen location and close our inner-city store in summer 2026," a company spokesperson told our website.
The retailer has deliberately invested in the Peißen site to make it "future-proof." The MediaMarkt there was recently renovated and updated with the latest store design. Going forward, this location will serve as the "first port of call for tech" in the city of Halle—though it lies just outside the city center. With this change, the only remaining electronics specialty stores in Halle will be Expert in the Hallescher Einkaufspark and Medimax in the Neustadt Centrum.
What Does This Mean for Customers?
For shoppers in the city center, the closure removes a key destination. However, the company emphasizes that service will not suffer. From summer 2026 onward, all ongoing matters—from repairs to warranty claims—will be fully handled by the MediaMarkt in Halle-Peißen.
