Saxony-Anhalt pumps €100M into education and research by 2029
Saxony-Anhalt will invest over €100 million in education and research by 2029. The funds come from the federal programme Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality. Both daycare centres and universities will see upgrades to improve facilities and sustainability.
The state plans to spend €104.5 million by 2029, with €26.1 million going to higher education and science by the end of 2026. The Ministry of Science will use the money to boost Saxony-Anhalt's position in national excellence competitions. Modernisation work includes energy-efficient retrofits and new research facilities.
From 2027, daycare funding will focus on sustainability and energy efficiency. The Ministry of Social Affairs will also restructure and consolidate sites to better match local demand. Social Affairs Minister Petra Grimm-Benne said the investments would enhance early childhood education and address educational inequalities. Between 2027 and 2029, the funds will be split evenly. Each ministry will receive around €13 million per year. The goal is to support both municipal and independent providers in building a stronger future for the region.
The funding will modernise universities, research institutes, and daycare centres across Saxony-Anhalt. Energy-efficient upgrades and structural improvements aim to create better learning environments. The state expects these changes to benefit students, researchers, and young families in the long term.
