More optimism for one's own life than for Saxony-Anhalt - Saxony-Anhalt residents reveal pride and persistent challenges in new survey
A new survey has revealed mixed feelings among residents of Saxony-Anhalt about life in eastern Germany. While most people report high personal satisfaction, many still believe they face disadvantages compared to other regions. The findings come from the latest Saxony-Anhalt Monitor, which interviewed over 1,000 locals earlier this year.
The Saxony-Anhalt Monitor, carried out between May and July 2025, gathered responses from 1,101 residents. Conducted by the European Metropolregion Mitteldeutschland and MAS Gesellschaft für Markt- und Sozialforschung, the study aimed to assess attitudes toward life in the region.
The survey paints a complex picture of life in Saxony-Anhalt. While satisfaction with personal circumstances is high, doubts persist about the region’s overall prospects. The findings suggest a strong local identity, even as many continue to see eastern Germany as facing long-term challenges.
