Saxony-Anhalt sees significantly fewer asylum seekers - Saxony-Anhalt Sees Sharp Drop in Asylum Seekers, Cites 'Migration Turnaround'

Saxony-Anhalt's Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang has attributed a significant decrease in asylum seekers to a 'migration turnaround', highlighting the importance of border control and enforcing returns. The state is promoting voluntary departures, with the return center playing a crucial role in assisting those leaving for Syria.

As of August, 4,756 people subject to deportation were registered in Saxony-Anhalt, with 656 voluntary departures this year. The state reception facility in Stendal is set to open fully by the end of the year, providing 1,000 places, while the facility in Magdeburg will close.

The average weekly intake of asylum seekers this year is 56, a significant drop from last year's 99. By the end of September, 2,224 asylum seekers have been registered, marking a 42% decrease from the same period last year. The Central Reception Facility currently accommodates around 1,640 people, with distributions across Halberstadt, Magdeburg, and Stendal.

The decrease in asylum seekers in Saxony-Anhalt is notable, with voluntary departures and the state's reception facilities playing significant roles. The return center's assistance in providing return advisors and reintegration help for those leaving for Syria is crucial in managing this change.
