Saxony-Anhalt transport workers strike for fairer pay and shorter hours
Public transport workers across Saxony-Anhalt have taken to the streets to demand better working conditions. Carrying banners with slogans like ‘No transport without us’ and ‘35 hours is enough’, employees marched in protest ahead of upcoming wage talks. Their calls include shorter hours, fairer pay, and improved rest periods between shifts.
The United Services Union (ver.di) formally submitted its demands to the Municipal Employers’ Association (KAV) in Halle (Saale). A delegation delivered the proposals directly into the KAV mailbox on Merseburger Straße, marking the official start of negotiations for local public transport (TV-N).
The union’s proposals now rest with the KAV, which will review the demands before negotiations start. Any failure to reach a compromise may lead to industrial action, affecting bus and tram services. The outcome will determine whether workers secure the shorter hours and improved conditions they are calling for.
