Zoo prices remain largely stable - Saxony-Anhalt zoos split on 2026 pricing as visitor forecasts dip

Two major zoos in Saxony-Anhalt have announced changes to their admission policies for 2026. While Halle Zoo will raise prices and scrap its family ticket, Magdeburg Zoo has decided to freeze costs despite higher subsidies. The decisions come as visitor forecasts for Magdeburg are adjusted downward.

Halle Zoo will increase entry fees by 1€ for adults, Halle Pass holders, chaperones, and dogs. The zoo has also confirmed it will no longer offer a family dollar option. Meanwhile, Stendal Animal Park and Aschersleben Wildlife Park will keep their current admission prices unchanged.

Magdeburg Zoo, led by director David Pruß, will maintain stable pricing in 2026. This follows an additional €400,000 in subsidies for the year. Commercial manager Dirk Wilke confirmed the decision, noting that the zoo had prepared an economic feasibility study and a long-term sustainability plan. However, visitor projections for Magdeburg have been revised down to 245,000, lower than the initial estimate of 270,000.

Halle Zoo’s price adjustments will take effect next year, while Magdeburg’s rates remain fixed. The revised visitor numbers for Magdeburg reflect updated expectations. Both zoos have now finalised their financial strategies for 2026.
