Around 100 deployment sites in Saxony-Anhalt seek volunteers - Saxony-Anhalt's Cultural Volunteer Program Opens Doors for Young Creatives

Young people in Saxony-Anhalt have until March 15 to apply for a Voluntary Social Year in Culture. The programme offers placements in libraries, museums, theatres, and other cultural institutions. Around 100 organisations across the region are currently looking for volunteers to start in September.

The Voluntary Social Year in Culture (FSJ Kultur) is open to applicants aged 16 to 26. Those who join will work for 12 months, gaining hands-on experience in cultural professions. In return, they receive a monthly allowance of about €400, social insurance coverage, and 30 days of paid leave.

During their service, volunteers take part in 25 days of educational training. They can choose from roles in cinemas, music schools, memorials, and other cultural sites. For those outside the age range, the Federal Volunteer Service (BFD) provides similar opportunities with no upper age limit. Applications must be submitted by March 15. Successful candidates will begin their placements in September, contributing to cultural projects while developing professional skills.

The programme gives young people a chance to explore careers in culture while supporting local institutions. Volunteers will receive training, financial support, and practical experience. Organisations in Saxony-Anhalt are now reviewing applications ahead of the September start date.
