Employers' Association: "We Need a Mandatory Optimism" - Saxony-Anhalt’s economy faces bleak 2025 without bold reforms, warns industry leader
Marco Langhof, chairman of the Saxony-Anhalt Employers’ Association, has warned that the region’s economic outlook for 2025 remains weak. He criticized the lack of a bold vision from the government and urged both businesses and policymakers to embrace urgent change. Without strategic investment in new industries, he argued, the region risks falling further behind.
Langhof described Saxony-Anhalt’s current economic performance as sobering, with little structural improvement and no significant growth. He pointed to high energy prices, struggles in the chemical industry, and a declining automotive sector as key challenges. According to him, the region’s existing strengths and subsidies are no longer enough to attract international companies.
Langhof’s remarks highlight the need for Saxony-Anhalt to shift focus from traditional sectors to emerging industries. His proposals include faster upskilling of workers, decarbonisation investments, and expanded semiconductor capacity. Without these changes, he warned, the region will continue to struggle in a competitive market.
