Statistics: Increase in Business Registrations in Saxony - Saxony's 2025 startup boom outpaces Germany with record 56% growth
Saxony experienced a notable shift in its business landscape in 2025. The state saw a record surge in new startups, outpacing other German regions, while also facing a slight rise in company closures. Retail remained the hardest-hit sector for deregistrations.
The number of new business registrations in Saxony climbed to 28,704 in 2025, marking an 8.4 percent increase from the previous year. For every 88 closures, there were 100 new registrations, keeping the balance positive. Women made up around 38 percent of these new entrepreneurs.
Saxony led Germany in startup growth, with a 56 percent jump compared to 2024. This surge surpassed Bayern's 46 percent and Nordrhein-Westfalen's 33 percent, even as the country as a whole set a national record of 3,568 new startups—a 29 percent rise. The automotive, construction, and hospitality sectors together accounted for nearly 40 percent of all new registrations. Meanwhile, business deregistrations inched up by 0.5 percent. Retail suffered the most, representing about 24 percent of all closures. Around one in ten new businesses were founded by entrepreneurs from Poland, Ukraine, Syria, or Romania.
The data shows Saxony's business scene in 2025 was defined by strong startup growth, particularly in key industries. Despite a marginal increase in closures, the overall trend remained positive, with foreign-born and female entrepreneurs playing a significant role. The state's performance stood out nationally, especially in startup expansion.
