Scheidegg’s 2025 Wins Fuel Ambitious 2026 Plans for Growth and Sustainability

The municipality of Scheidegg concluded 2025 with a notable list of accomplishments, from cost-saving strategic planning to significant infrastructure victories. Now, the town is preparing for an equally active 2026, with multimillion-euro projects on the horizon. Local officials have already laid the groundwork for housing, transport, and education enhancements in the coming year.

One of the most significant successes in 2025 resulted from Scheidegg’s independent approach to zoning. By drafting its own regulations for several districts, the town significantly reduced expenses. This self-reliance also extended to energy policy: the municipality received the European Energy Award in Gold. A standout project involved repurposing old photovoltaic modules into balcony power plants, led by the town’s energy team.

Public transport also experienced unexpected growth, with the Route 21 bus to Lindau carrying a third more passengers than anticipated, indicating stronger demand than expected. However, not all businesses flourished—Café Margit&Fehl in the town center and Böserischeidegg’s village dairy both closed their doors in 2025. Looking ahead, 2026 will bring two major developments. A senior housing complex near the sports field will offer 60 apartments alongside a daycare center. Meanwhile, the primary school renovation, another multimillion-euro project, will progress. Scheidegg’s municipal planning office and the independent firm Planwerk Lindau are managing the designs, with the mayor and town council overseeing coordination. The Schmalzgrube residential area is also slated for completion in 2026. Infrastructure work is already underway, paving the way for new homes to enter the market.

Scheidegg’s 2025 efforts have set the stage for a year of expansion and modernization. The town will soon add new housing, upgrade its school, and continue improving transport links. With planning already in progress, officials aim to deliver these projects efficiently in the coming months.
