Schleswig-Holstein Minister Urges Crisis Preparedness Amid Hybrid Threats
Sabine Sütterlin-Waack, Schleswig-Holstein's Interior Minister, has urged residents to prepare for crises and conflicts. She highlighted the north's vulnerability to hybrid threats and recent drone activities, which she believes are intended to unsettle rather than spy.
The minister acknowledged improvements in drone detection and shooting capabilities since 2024. She recommended having self-sufficiency supplies at home, including food, water, candles or flashlights, a camping stove, and possibly a backup generator.
Despite budget constraints, the state has created ten new positions at the police and constitutional protection office to prepare for emergencies. However, the minister stressed that authorities cannot evacuate and supply the entire population in an emergency, emphasizing the importance of individual preparedness.
While no specific new crisis management structure has been announced, the Kreis Segeberg opened a digital administrative assistant office in September 2025. This office can facilitate access to administrative services even in crisis times.
Sabine Sütterlin-Waack's advice underscores the importance of individual preparation for potential crises. While authorities enhance their capabilities, residents are encouraged to have essential supplies at home. The digital administrative assistant office in Segeberg offers a digital lifeline for administrative services in emergencies.
