Schleswig-Holstein: Interior Minister and Agriculture Minister Announce Withdrawal - Schleswig-Holstein's Cabinet Gets a Fresh Start with Schwarz's Departure
Schleswig-Holstein's agriculture minister, Werner Schwarz, has announced he will not seek another term. This decision paves the way for a cabinet reshuffle, with Nina Finke and Jan-Christian Schmidt set to take over as interior and agriculture ministers respectively. Premier Daniel Günther welcomes this change, describing it as a 'genuine rejuvenation' of the cabinet.
The transition will see Sabine Sütterlin-Waack, who has served as interior minister since 2020, step down on November 12, 2023. She will be succeeded by Nina Finke, aged 38. Finke's appointment comes as the next regular state election is scheduled for 2027, providing her with ample time to establish herself in the role.
Werner Schwarz, who has held the agriculture portfolio since 2022, will be replaced by Jan-Christian Schmidt, aged 34. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which has been governing Schleswig-Holstein in coalition with the Greens since 2022, aims to maintain continuity while ensuring fresh leadership.
The upcoming changes in the Schleswig-Holstein cabinet reflect a strategic move by the governing coalition to refresh its leadership while ensuring stability. With the next state election still some years away, the new ministers have time to settle into their roles and make their mark.
