Koch a Year Out from State Election Satisfied with Coalition - Schleswig-Holstein's CDU-Greens coalition thrives on compromise ahead of 2025 election

The CDU-Greens coalition in Schleswig-Holstein has shown resilience despite heated debates. Over a year before the next state election, both parties continue working together on key policies. Tobias Koch, leader of the CDU parliamentary group, described the partnership as good and harmonious—even when disagreements arise behind closed doors.

Since forming in 2022, the coalition has turned initial tensions into concrete policies. Climate protection saw expanded renewable energy targets, while education reforms introduced all-day schools and improved teacher training. Housing projects accelerated affordable construction, and agriculture received subsidies for sustainable farming. By 2025, these compromises became visible results.

One major sticking point was the Greens' push for an Ostsee National Park. Though the issue remained unresolved in the coalition agreement, progress on Baltic Sea protection was still achieved. Koch noted that while the Greens did not get everything they wanted, the debate did not harm the partnership.

Both sides admit to occasional frustration. Yet, they emphasise cooperation over constant conflict, proving that politics can function even with substantive differences.

The coalition's approach has led to tangible outcomes in climate, education, housing, and farming. With the next election approaching, the CDU and Greens remain focused on showing that collaboration—despite tough discussions—can deliver results. The partnership continues to prioritise policy over infighting.
