Schliersee kiosk expansion halted amid fierce planning dispute and legal hurdles
A kiosk on Seestraße in Schliersee is at the centre of a planning dispute after its owner began renovations without permission. The district administration has since halted work, citing missing approvals. The expansion plans, which include new restrooms, storage, and parking, now face further scrutiny.
The owner started expanding the kiosk before securing a building permit. The project involves adding a storage room, two restrooms, an extra access route, and three parking spaces on the small site. Authorities intervened with a stop-work order, forcing the work to pause.
The town council had approved a zoning change for the project around a year ago. However, the construction committee initially rejected the application because the kiosk sits in a residential zone. The road office also raised concerns about the proposed entrance from the federal highway. An alternative route from Carl-Schwarz-Straße was dismissed due to property rights issues.
Public reaction to the plans has shifted over time. Local businesses, such as bakeries and hotels, supported the expansion in late 2024, arguing it would boost tourism. But by early 2025, residents and environmental groups objected, citing traffic concerns, violations of nature protection rules along the lake, and conflicts with the town's development plan. The debate continues as the proposal enters a public consultation phase.
If the project fails to meet regulations, the council could enforce a usage ban or even order demolition.
The kiosk's future now depends on the outcome of the consultation and further reviews. The owner must address concerns over access, zoning, and environmental impact before any work can resume. A final decision is expected in the coming months.
