Schönenwerd to Elect New Municipal President After Sudden Resignation
Schönenwerd will hold a special election on Sunday, June 14, 2026, to choose a new municipal president. The vote follows the resignation of Charlotte Shah-Wuillemin from the role. The winner will serve out the remaining term until 2029.
Charlotte Shah-Wuillemin stepped down as municipal president, leaving the position vacant. Under local rules, the election must take place within three months of the resignation. The date has now been set for June 14, 2026.
The election will use the majority voting system, meaning the candidate with the most votes wins outright. As of March 14, 2026, no parties or individuals have officially entered the race. The nomination period has yet to open, so no candidates have been confirmed. Residents will decide who completes the 2025–2029 term. The new president will take over duties immediately after the results are certified.
The special election will determine Schönenwerd's leadership for the next three years. Voters will select their next municipal president under the majority system. Official nominations are expected once the registration window opens.
