School Assembly News Headlines Today (Dec 24): Top 7 India, World & Weather Updates + Thought of the Day

December 2025 brought a mix of sporting triumphs, political tensions, and environmental concerns for India. While athletes secured victories on the field, protests erupted in Delhi over air pollution and cross-border violence. Meanwhile, the government extended aid to a neighbouring nation in crisis.

On December 23, Hindu groups gathered outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) led a march condemning the mob killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu garment worker, in Bangladesh on December 18. Two days earlier, the Akhand Hindu Rashtra Sena had staged its own demonstration at the same location, demanding justice for the victim.

In sports, Kiran Ankush Jadhav won gold in the 10m Air Rifle at the National Shooting Championships. The same week, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the first T20I match. Delhi’s air quality plunged to hazardous levels, with the AQI exceeding 400 at 27 monitoring stations. Several areas recorded ‘severe plus’ pollution. In response, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) held a striking protest in South Extension and Connaught Place. Volunteers dressed as Santa Claus wore gas masks to draw attention to the health risks of toxic air. Amid regional tensions, Pakistan’s ruling party youth leader Kamran Saeed Usmani warned India of potential military retaliation over the Bangladesh dispute. Meanwhile, India announced a USD 450 million aid package to help Sri Lanka rebuild after devastating cyclones. President Droupadi Murmu also presented the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, recognising outstanding contributions to science.

The month saw India balancing diplomatic aid with domestic unrest. Protests over pollution and violence contrasted with athletic achievements and scientific recognition. The government’s financial support for Sri Lanka came as tensions with Pakistan and Bangladesh remained unresolved.
