Scouts Bring Peace Light to Marl

A flame kindled in Bethlehem has arrived in Marl, carrying a message of peace. Known as the Peace Light, it was brought to the city under the motto A Spark of Courage by local Scouts. The light now shines in Stadthaus 1 and Christ-König Church, where residents can share its glow.

The journey of the Peace Light began in Bethlehem before travelling to Linz’s Mariendom. From there, it reached Münster Cathedral, where a sending ceremony drew over 2,200 attendees. Local Scouts from Marl then collected the flame in Münster and carried it home by train.

Bastian Schnieder and Markus Bresser, representing the Christ-König Marl-Sickingmühle troop, presented the light to Mayor Thomas Terhorst. The mayor accepted it on behalf of the city, pledging to uphold the tradition. Meanwhile, the flame is available for residents to light candles at Christ-König Church on Hammer Straße. By Christmas Eve, around 15,000 Scouts across North Rhine-Westphalia will distribute the Peace Light. Bastian Schnieder, a volunteer from Münster, has been part of the effort since 2010, helping to spread the flame each year.

The Peace Light now burns in Marl, offering a symbol of hope for the community. Residents can visit Christ-König Church to light their own candles from the flame. The tradition will continue as Scouts share the light across the region in the coming days.
