Selangor awaits Cabinet green light on Carey Island third port, says MB
Plans for Selangor’s third international port on Carey Island are moving forward. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered agencies to speed up work on the Klang Port Third Terminal. The project, first announced in February 2023, now awaits key approvals before construction can begin.
The Selangor state government set aside 1,011.71 hectares (2,500 acres) of seabed land for the project. An additional 687.96 hectares (1,700 acres) owned by Yayasan Selangor will be jointly managed with PKNS, the state’s development corporation. Any developer chosen for the port must first negotiate terms with PKNS.
The Federal Cabinet is finalising the project framework before submitting it to Selangor’s authorities. Initially expected in January 2024, the submission date has now been pushed to March 2024. A final decision on the port’s construction will follow once the state reviews the proposal. The Selangor government has made clear it is waiting for the Cabinet’s approval. Until then, no further steps can be taken on the long-planned terminal.
The Carey Island port remains in the planning stage, with March 2024 as the new deadline for framework submission. Once approved, the project will add a major new hub to Selangor’s maritime infrastructure. The state has already secured the land and set conditions for future developers.
