Semey Opens Massive Republic Day Park With Yurt Design
A new park, spanning 53,000 square meters, has been opened in Semey's Karagaily microdistrict to celebrate Republic Day. The park, designed to resemble a yurt from above, features walking paths, rest areas, a stage, cultural event venues, and a monument of the Altyn Adam. Residents have proposed naming it 'Republic Park' or 'Republic Square'.
The park's construction was completed swiftly, with 24,000 square meters of land landscaped, 20,370 square meters paved with cobblestones, and 20,480 square meters covered with asphalt. A total of nearly 1,000 pine and fir trees, over 9,500 decorative shrubs, and around 8,000 perennial flowers were planted to enhance the park's greenery.
Local resident Nurlybek Kaliuly commended the new park for its greenery, playgrounds, and the Altyn Adam monument. The opening event concluded with vibrant performances by the Alatau Serileri ensemble and artists from the Amirkhan Kashauyev Regional Philharmonic. The park is designed to eventually feature a national flag, further symbolizing Semey's pride and independence.
The park's opening ceremony was attended by Abai Region governor Berik Uali and various local residents and groups. Governor Uali congratulated residents on Republic Day and emphasized the park's significance as a symbol of Semey's progress and independence. The park's name, whether 'Republic Park' or 'Republic Square', remains a matter of resident proposal, reflecting the community's spirit and unity.
