Senate nears vote on 2026 Interior-EPA funding bill amid bipartisan optimism

The US Senate is preparing to vote on its fiscal 2026 Interior-Environment spending bill in the coming weeks. Senator Lisa Murkowski, who leads the relevant subcommittee, believes the House and Senate versions align closely on key priorities. Both chambers are now working to finalise funding for the Interior Department and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) has expressed confidence that differences between the House and Senate bills can be resolved. As chair of the Senate Interior-Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, she highlighted the shared focus between the two chambers on funding critical programmes.

If approved, the legislation will set funding levels for the Interior Department and EPA through 2026. The next steps depend on negotiations between House and Senate lawmakers. A final agreement would require both chambers to pass matching versions of the bill before it can become law.
