Senegal and Visa Explore Fintech Partnership to Boost Digital Finance

Senegal's government and Visa have held talks to strengthen cooperation in digital finance. On March 10, 2026, the country's Minister of Communications, Telecommunications and Digital, Alioune Sall, met with Visa's Senior Vice President for West and Central Africa, Aminata Kane. The discussions focused on expanding financial inclusion and supporting Senegal's fintech sector.

During the meeting, both sides explored ways to work together on key financial and technological initiatives. Visa shared early findings from a regional study aimed at guiding policy decisions for governments in the area. The full report is set to be published in June 2026.

Another topic on the agenda was the potential opening of a Visa office in Dakar. While the current number of Visa offices in West Africa remains unclear, this move could mark a significant step in the company's regional presence. To build a lasting partnership, the two parties agreed to hold technical workshops. These sessions will help define a clear framework for long-term collaboration in areas like digital payments and financial innovation.

The discussions signal a push to boost Senegal's fintech growth and improve access to digital financial services. If finalised, the partnership could lead to new policies and infrastructure supporting the country's financial sector. The next steps will depend on the outcomes of the planned technical workshops and the upcoming study report.
